Day 20 - Voice Recorder

Day 20 ...

This tiny memo voice recorder seemed like such a handy thing to have as i walked 3 miles each way to work and back home daily. This was in the early 1990's long before cell phones.
{ok, truth is cars kept trying to run me over on my daily walk to work so i thought this would be handy to quickly take down tag numbers!}
It's been packed away in a storage box, but last time i came across it the batteries were still good and the recorder worked fine ... but i've never actually used it. It needs 4 of those batteries showing in the lower photo. Somebody's kid would have a blast playing with this so -

Day 19 - Cellphone Wallet

Day 19 ...

Absolutely nothing wrong with this cute wallet - i just don't care for black anymore since my eyesight is aging. Plus, i put a lovely rose covered cover on my cellphone and now it won't fit in the phone pocket of this wallet. The wallet has numerous pockets to organize most anything a person needs to carry, but i have a pink one that meets my needs and hangs on my key chain. So this one goes -

Day 18 - Tube of Medicine

Day 18 ...

Expired in 2011 ... and this is 2015?!
No brainer where this is going!

Day 17 - Tissue Box

Day 17 ...

I've had this beautiful tissue box cover for many years. It's covered with peach fabric overlaid with ivory color lace. The color peach, and lace are two of my favorite things so you can imagine my delight at this jewel, and it is hard to let it go, but once again somethings got to go. I even gave it new life with a roll of toilet tissue which fits perfectly inside and is so much cheaper than a box of tissues. It needs a tissue box inside to hold the roll of tp so it won't fall out the bottom.
Hmmmmm, more i think about it the more i'm tempted to keep this one, at least for a little while.
{see, i told ya letting go is so HARD to do!}

Day 16 - Doll Dress

Day 16 ...

This is 'Beth' and NO! she isn't being purged from my life - EVER!
She is 33 years old, and belonged to my daughter when she was a very young girl.
When daughter outgrew her affection for Beth and tossed her aside
I didn't have the hard heart to throw her out.
She's been right beside my bed sitting on my nightstand smiling sweetly at me everyday for over 20 years, and she will still be smiling at me when i draw my last breath.
Her clothes are showing their age so i thought i'd find her a new dress and bonnet. I saw this frilly blue dress in a thrift store and was tickled that it was just her tiny size. However once i put it on her it just didn't look like her at all, so the dress is going -

Day 15 - Toiletry Bag

Day 15 ...

I ordered this cute bag from eBay a couple months ago. I couldn't wait for it to arrive, which took awhile since it came from China. At last it was here and i was tickled until i opened the package and it had a strong petroleum smell and greasy feel. Sooooooo, being the dimwit that i am, i tossed it into the washing machine with some towels. It came out smelling great and no longer greasy... However the stitching came loose on the end of the zipper and the zipper pull was off of it. I tried several times to reattach the pull back onto the zipper, with no luck. Crestfallen, i set it aside after stuffing it with newspaper to help it hold it's shape till i could figure out what to do with it.
I don't like to donate anything defective but since it's brand new maybe there's someone out there in the world who can reattach the pull.

Day 14 - Picture Frames

Day 14 ...

I wish i could keep these two beautiful picture frames. They are small but each one is heavy, and i'm trying to purge as much heavy or bulky items as possible. I'll probably regret letting them go -
for about 15 minutes ;-)

Day 13 - Green M&M Santa

Day 13 ...

This adorable Santa is a plastic green M&M about 2 inches tall, dated on the bottom 1997.
Would make a great keepsake gift for someone born or married in that year.
However, for me that year holds no sentimental value, so bye-bye little cute fella.

Day 12 - Hair Accessories

Day 12 ...

When i was growing up my Mom kept my hair cut in a very short pixie cut, which i really hated, especially with my round face. I wanted long hair like the other girls instead of a boys hairdo! So when i grew up i let my hair grow out long, and pretty much kept it that way up until last year when i cut it into a short shag. As i've gotten older my hair is getting very thin in front and on top so long hair just doesn't look as good anymore. So no more need for a wardrobe of holders to wear it up when the weather gets hot. I've kept a few clips to pull it up with but i won't be wearing ponytails anymore ... [into the donation box]

Day 11 - Rose Vase

Day 11 ...

Some things i just hate to get rid of and this is one of them.
It's a fairly small, short, ivory color vase, with lovely curlyq's, plus the pink and yellow roses,
and gold trim on the top edge, which is all just my style.
But there's no sentimental attachment so out it goes.

Day 10 - My Inspiration ~ Carly

Day 10...

I am soooooooo far behind in this blog i'll never get caught up! It's actually Sat Feb 14th now!
It takes me so much time to decide what to purge; take photos; upload photos to my computer, then to my blog; then write up a post, that i don't see how i can ever keep this blog alive.

There's so much i need to purge, de-own, de-clutter, and organize that i don't even know where to start each day.
It would help if someone would just give me a daily assignment, like 'go purge something in the dish area or go purge one totebag today' that sort of thing - like having a Mom breathing down my neck guiding my way down this confusing path. :-)

Anyway, today I thought i would share with you how i became inspired to start doing this in the first place. It's all CARLY's fault! She embarked on this same mission last year and did a fantastic job with it. Her daily emails were/are pure sunshine; short, visual, amusing, thought provoking, inspiring.  I get hundreds of emails daily and barely look at half a dozen, but i always read her's first. If she had faltered or quit mid year i certainly wouldn't have blamed her at all (this project is tough let me tell ya) but it would have felt like something vital chopped off of me if she had.

So without further ado (hmmm, just what IS an 'ado'??) i introduce you to Carly.
Click her banner below to take you to her blog.
